About Taianne

Hello and welcome to In The Kitchen With Tai.

My Story

My name is Taianne. But I am usually called Tai. When my niece and nephew were small they had a difficult time pronouncing my name so they shortened it to Aunt Tai.  It is easier for people to remember. I am the oldest of 6 kids. I was born in Paris Illinois but have lived in California and Texas growing up. My dad worked for Continental Airlines in the flight kitchen. He had worked in the cooking profession all his life. My dad opened his own small restaurant along with my uncle. My first job at 15 years old was working for him. But my interest in cooking and baking was born years earlier. At 11 years old, I remember sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night and baking a cake for my parents anniversary.

I also remember cooking my first meal at 11 years old.  It was Mother’s Day. I felt guilty because I didn’t go to church with my mom and siblings.  So I decided to cook lunch for them. It was on the table waiting for them when they returned from church. I remember the menu.  Fish Sticks, mashed potatoes, and corn. By the way, my mom still received an award for having the most children in church that day.

I had a great-aunt who taught me a lot about cooking and baking. At 12 years old I went and stayed with her for a couple weeks. She lived out in the country in a farmhouse In Indiana. There wasn’t much else to do so we baked all kinds of goodies and cooked a huge dinner that several relatives that were expected to attend. Cookies, cakes and even some candy. A meal is just not complete without dessert!

At 17, I married and began having children. Three in all. While my children were growing up we could not live on just my husband’s income so I went back to school and became a Registered Nurse. When they were little I still cooked and baked but when I joined the workforce there was no time for a decent meal. With me working in addition to their school and summer activities, we were on the go quite often,  But now at the age of 60, I have slowed down and now have the time for the cooking and baking I love. I have even tried new things I have never tried before. I love jelly filled donuts but they just don’t make them the way they use to.  Now I can only find them with white icing.  Too sweet for me.  I remember when I was young they had sugar on them.  Now that’s the way they should be made.  My first attempt. Why In The Kitchen With Tai?

Cooking and Baking is a dying art.  Fast foods and restaurants are the in thing.  Especially with families on the go with their children’s school and summer activities. I remember as a child, the whole family sitting down for supper together.  That was the way with my children growing up also before I joined the workforce.  With all the new kitchen gadgets on the market, you CAN make a decent meal in no time.

 

My Goal

Really it is the same as above. With a few tips and recipes thrown in here and there. I want to bring people back to cooking and baking. Give them the confidence that, they can do this and be proud of their accomplishments in the kitchen. To introduce to you products and gadgets to use to make your cooking and baking experiences easier and more fun.
