Best Homemade Biscuits That Melt in Your Mouth

Homemade biscuits anyone? I have to be honest here. My husband likes the biscuits you get out of a can. Still can’t figure that one out. To me, they don’t have much taste. I would much rather have homemade biscuits and the recipe I found is the best homemade biscuits that just melt in your mouth.

I mean really! out of a can? I know it is convenient but come on. Don’t sacrifice taste just got some convenience. Actually, these biscuits took me a total of twenty minutes from start to finish. What’s twenty minutes when you can have a fluffy warm biscuit with melted butter to make your mouth dance?

I made these biscuits the other evening to go with the sausage gravy I was making for supper. I had no can of biscuits in the refrigerator. My husband offered to go to town to buy biscuits but I talked him out of it. Why run clear to town when I had the ingredients for homemade.

I really think he was disappointed(shaking my head). I just don’t get it.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk

Directions

Measure flour into a medium bowl. Add baking powder and salt. Mix together with a whisk. I use a whisk because it helps to sift the ingredients together. Cut the cold butter into small pieces and Add to the flour mixture. Cut the butter into the flour either with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add half of the milk and mix well then add the other half of the milk.

The dough will be sticky. On a floured surface knead the dough gently four or five times. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Now here is a trick I do instead of using a biscuit cutter, I fold the dough in half and then cut into even squares. Place on a greased baking pan and bake in a preheated 375-degree oven. I used a cast iron skillet to bake mine in. I just grease the skillet with butter.

When the biscuits are done brush them with some melted butter. From start to finish it took about twenty minutes to make these yummy biscuits.

Conclusion

Now I know it takes only about a minute to open a can of biscuits, place them in a pan and bake for about 10 to12 minutes for a total of 15 minutes. But in 20 minutes you can have homemade fluffy biscuits that melt in your mouth. Which would you rather eat? (Please say homemade).

I work The evening shift so I know that it is more convenient for my husband to just open a can of biscuits. Sometimes he will make these biscuits and eat them with butter and a lot of the time that is all he will eat. There is no way he is going to make the homemade version. A cook he is not, so I kinda understand his reasoning here. But to prefer the canned over homemade? Not so much.

I’m getting close to getting him to see it my way. (I hope). What is a wife to do but just keep trying:)

Give these biscuits a try and please leave me a comment below. As always I love hearing from you. If you have a favorite biscuit recipe I would love for you to share.

Have a Wonderful and Tasty day.
